Well, it was too much to resist - 20% off all regular and sale-priced stuff at Joann's - and since I make cards for Operation Write Home, a bargain is a bargain.
I was a little disappointed. The store was curiously empty. Just, here and there, clumps of "women of a certain age" - you know, the Hillary Clinton age group. Which, I realized with that awful "aha moment" was just around my age.
Hey, I look pretty good - certainly not 60-ish. Shoot me. But when it comes to that discount, I'd borrow a cane and somebody else's granny to get that 20% off.
So, I spent $48, and saved $46, with all the sale prices and the discount on top.
I don't like thinking that 2/3 (at least) of my life is over. It bothers me. It bothers a lot of my friends, too. But, we didn't waste a lot of time thinking about this certainty when we were 25 (unless you were like me, wasting your youth with hypochondraica). I'm not going to sweat it. I don't like the fact that the salesgirl didn't I was trying to pull a fast one by pretending I was a senior. But then, I remembered that anyone 6 months older than the young are OLD. So I'm in a big group!!
Cheer up, babies. Let's just have a lot of wonderful fun. Go to a flea market. Make some homemade dog biscuits. Try that apple crunch pie you made for your husband and have denied yourself (and squirt some caramel sauce over the entire piece). Upload a book from audible.com - I'm listening to a book about Doc Holliday and the Earp Brothers. East candied walnuts. Drive with the top down. Suck back some pizza.
